WTTC hosts PADTTA closed league tournament for Divisions 3 & 4 on 11th May 2019
21st April 2019WTTC AGM is on Tuesday 28th May 2019 at 7pm
2nd May 2019Unfortunately, after a while Peter Hau who ran the club suffered a long term illness so the club was put into a prolonged period of hibernation.
About 3 years ago I heard about a table tennis club starting up at the Scaldgate Community Centre just round the corner from where I live. I had not played table tennis since I was a teenager at my local Air Cadets Squadron where I played fairly regularly. I had also played occasionally when I was in the RAF a few years later, but it had definitely been a very long time!
About 18 months ago our club and 2 other local clubs merged to form Whittlesey Table Tennis Club and we moved into a new location at the Whittlesey Indoor Bowls Complex on Station Rd in Whittlesey! The sports hall that we hire is capable of housing 9-10 table tennis tables and we have four 3hr sessions a week rather than only one previously. The club has grown incredibly in a short space of time and we now have 68 regular members. We have 5 teams from our club playing in the local Peterborough League and I am proud to say that I’m a member of one of those teams and the team I’m in has a very strong chance of winning our league this season.
So I started to attend the new club at Scaldgate as often as my work shift pattern would allow me to and thoroughly enjoyed it, also making new wonderful friends as a bonus!
Last year I also became a committee member of our club and attend regular meetings. I help the club progress with my input just as the other committee members do. If we have local events or promotional sessions I attend as long as my shifts allow me to.
Until about a year ago I was the youngest member at the club, I’m 54 now, but since then there has been an injection of youth into the club with regular training sessions on Thursday evenings to help them progress and hone their skills from our team of club coaches and all for free (except for our subs fee)!
WTTC is growing all the time with very strong foundations in place now. It’s really good fun with wonderfully friendly members, we have a great social aspect within the club, which feels just like a family. All newcomers are welcomed with open arms no matter what standard they are! WTTC is quite a big part of my life now and is my only form of exercise because I’m a shift worker, but with 4 sessions a week I can usually make it to at least one!
